Overview
This 8-day Ladakh itinerary takes you through some of the most stunning landscapes of northern India. Start in Srinagar with a Shikara ride on Dal Lake before heading to Sonamarg, known for its beautiful meadows, and then to Kargil. On Day 3, journey to Leh via scenic passes and visit ancient monasteries like Lamayuru and Alchi. Day 4 includes crossing Khardung La, the world’s highest motorable pass, to explore Nubra Valley, including Diskit Monastery and the Maitreya Buddha statue.
The tour continues with a visit to Turtuk, India’s northernmost village, known for its unique culture and scenic beauty. On Day 6, head to Pangong Lake, renowned for its crystal-clear waters, and then return to Leh, stopping at Hemis and Thiksey Monasteries. Day 1: Arrive – Srinagar + Boat Ride (Lunch/Dinner)
- Upon arrival, meet and greet with our representative outside the airport hall and transfer to the hotel/houseboat.
- Afternoon free for personal activities.
- In the evening, enjoy a Shikara ride on Dal Lake to witness the sunset.
- Overnight stay at hotel/houseboat.
Day 2: Srinagar – Sonamarg – Kargil (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
- After breakfast, depart for Sonamarg, “The Meadow of Gold,” located 87 km from Srinagar at an altitude of 3,000 meters.
- The drive offers incredible scenic beauty with dense pine forests and towering mountains.
- Sonamarg is a popular resort for mountaineers and an important halt en route to Kargil (Ladakh).
- Overnight stay at Kargil.
Day 3: Kargil – Lamayuru – Aichi – Leh (175km / 6hrs) (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
- Morning departure from Kargil.
- The journey involves crossing three passes, making the day both tiresome and panoramic.
- The first Buddhist village en route is Mulbek.
- You will cross the highest pass on the Srinagar–Leh route
- Lunch stop at Lamayuru, followed by a visit to Alchi Monastery, known for its artistic and spiritual wall paintings reflecting both Buddhist and Hindu influences.
- Continue to Leh.
- Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
Day 4: Leh – Khardung La – Diskit – Hunder (Nubra Valley) (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
- Set off for Nubra Valley, crossing Khardung La, the world’s highest motorable pass at 5,602 meters, offering panoramic views of the Karakoram range.
- Nubra Valley, known as the “Valley of Flowers,” lies at 3,100 meters and features desert landscapes alongside fertile fields.
- Visit Diskit Monastery, the largest gompa in Nubra, and the 32-meter-high statue of Maitreya Buddha.
- Continue to Hunder village.
- Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
Day 5: Nubra – Turtuk – Nubra (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
- Embark on a day trip to Turtuk, India’s northernmost village, located just 12 km from the Line of Control with Pakistan.
- The scenic 80-km drive along the Shayok River leads to this Balti-inhabited village, known for its unique culture and apricot orchards.
- Turtuk was annexed to India in 1971 and opened to tourists in 2010.
- On clear days, the summit of K2 can be seen in the distance. Return to Nubra
- Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
Day 6: Nubra – Pangong (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
- After breakfast, drive to Pangong Lake, situated at 4,350 meters on the Indo-China border.
- The lake lies near the Chushul Mountains and is renowned for its mirror-calm, cold, clear, and salty waters.
- Overnight stay at hotel/camp near Pangong.
Day 7: Pangong – Leh (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
- After breakfast, drive back to Leh.
- En route, visit Hemis and Thiksey Monasteries.
- Arrive in Leh by evening and explore the local markets.
- Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 8: Leh – Delhi (flight departure) (Breakfast)
- After breakfast, transfer to the airport to board the flight to Delhi.
- On arrival, meet our representative.
- Free time for shopping.
- Later, transfer to the airport for onward journey.
